Student Projects

The future of the transportation system is Electrical Vehicles. Research and development in this area are highly promoted. As a result, most of the projects of the final year engineering students are aligned to this field leading to enormous opportunities in campus placement, entrepreneurship, and setting up start-ups. One such project is completed by a group of students of the Department of Electrical Engineering, K. K. Wagh Institute of Engineering Education and Research, Nashik. These students are Sarthak Pawar, Ganesh Pawar, Sagar Patil, and Dipak Mahale with their guide Prof. Atul Shewale.

Although efficient transportation systems, electric vehicles suffer from some disadvantages, like the large charging time of batteries. Sarthak Pawar and his group identified this problem and decided to address the same. They designed and manufactured the ‘SELF CHARGING (Range Extension) System’ in the institute workshop and successfully implemented it in an electric vehicle.  In this, they used 2 battery packs i.e. battery pack A and battery pack B. When the electric vehicle is running on battery pack A, it will convert mechanical energy into electrical energy and will charge battery pack B up to 60 % efficiency without taking power from the grid. Once battery pack A is discharged, the vehicle is shifted to battery pack B, and battery pack A is charged similarly. The single charging of the battery gives a mileage of around 25 km with a speed of 30-40 kmph.

Due to the pandemic situation, not only the teaching activities but the project activities are also completed using online platforms or open-source software. This is because of the limited access to hardware and license software due to lockdown. However, Institute and Department have extended their full support to all students to complete their work in the stipulated time. As a result, these students have developed and manufactured this vehicle and launched it on 9th July in the presence of all the faculty members of the department at the hands of Principal Dr. Keshav Nandurkar and the Incharge Head of the Department Dr. Ravindra Munje. This project is supported by Institute Workshop and E-Mortal Automotives Ltd. and guided by Prof. Atul Shewale from Electrical Department, Shri. Rahul Karleker from workshop, Er. Deepak Kute and Shri. Vitthal Date from Electrical Maintenance Department.
